Four great reasons why Leisure Weekly believes YOU should be
wearing a bicycle helmet:
Protection
w
Research shows that helmets reduce the chances of brain
injuries.
wHelmets
provide shade from the sun and keep rainfall from your eyes,
allowing you to observe your surroundings better.
Social Responsibility
Wearing
a helmet sets a good example for your children and peers. In
many regions around the country, half of the cyclists already
wear helmets. You should be one of them.
Visibility
Brightly colored helmets help other road-users keep a safe
distance.
Legal Issues
Many
insurance companies reduce the amount of money they award if you
aren't wearing a helmet when an accident occurs.

bike helmet
Dear
sir,
Having
just read your piece on cycling safety, I would like to share a
different view with your readers.
I am
originally from the Netherlands, where almost 30% of all
journeys are made by bicycle. Yet few people there wear a
helmet. There are several reasons for this.
First,
the Dutch government invests in cycle paths for particularly
busy or dangerous stretches of road. This makes Amsterdam, the
capital city of the Netherlands, one of the safest cities to
cycle in.
Second,
although it is true that you can injure your head falling off a
bike, you can hurt your head just as easily when walking. Would
you wear a helmet for a walk in the park?
Finally, the edges of helmets sometimes block your view of the
road, particularly if you are bending forward.
So
instead of wearing a helmet, why not campaign for a safer
cycling environment!
Yours
faithfully,
P.
Janssen

Amy spent two hours last evening watching a performance of Taiwanese opera at a public square near City Park. She arrived before the scheduled 7:30 P.M. starting time, but that wasn't early enough for her to get a seat. Amy didn't mind watching from the side of the crowd because she could see and hear everything that was happening on stage. At the end of the show, she went behind the stage to take a look at her favorite singer.
For question number 3:
W: Welcome back. How was your vacation?
M: It was wonderful. The food was delicious, and we stayed at
the hotel you recommended.
W: Glad to hear that. Did you stay on a higher floor?
M: I was hoping to, but the rooms on the upper floors were
booked.
W: That's a shame. The view would have been great.
M: At least our room was only one floor up from the restaurant.
We walked downstairs to have breakfast instead of taking the
elevator.
Question: Look at the floor information. Which floor did the man
stay on?
Question number 4:
If you've never taken a class here before, complete this
registration form first. You'll also need to present your ID,
provide two photos, and pay $100 so that the staff can create a
student card for you. But if you've been a student here before,
the photos and registration fee are not necessary. Just inform
the office staff when you submit your registration.
Question: What should a returning student do to register?
Question number 5:
Gary, I just received an email from a former guest complaining
about our front desk clerk. While the guest was here, she asked
for an additional towel from the front desk. According to her,
the clerk promised to get one for her but never did. That
appears to be very unprofessional. Could you check who that
clerk might have been?
Question: Which guest does the speaker talk about?
